Horror Games Online

Hotel 626 -

I don’t know how I missed it, but the online horror game “Hotel 626” was released sometime late last year (possibly Halloween) and received an FWA award for Site of the Month.

It’s a live-action / CG first person pov game where you’re trapped in a haunted hotel and you have to solve a variety of puzzles as well as traverse mazes to escape. It also involves using your webcam and microphone, although not required.

The site is only open 6pm to 6am (get it?), but you can play anytime during the day if you change the clock on your computer. While innovative and genuinely fun for what it is, its pretty short. But, I’m a huge fan of the Digital Pictures games from the Sega CD era and Hotel 626 is a big step towards the possibilities that lie ahead. Play it online at Hotel626.com.

The Outbreak -

Speaking of FWA award winners, The Outbreak, came out a few months ago and most of the horror community reported on it. I swear I had screenshots ready for a post but maybe I dreamed it or something, idk :P

Anyway, since then, the game has been converted into a youtube annotation game, but I still highly suggest playing it from the official site for stereo sound and higher quality graphics: SurviveTheOutbreak.com.

Dead Frontier -

While not as intriguing or immersive as the two previously mentioned games, its nice to see a run & gun zombie shooter with good graphics and game mechanics. Its also an MMO, in addition to being free. So, if you were a fan of games like SmashTV, Loaded, or Hunter: The Reckoning, its worth checking out. Play it online at DeadFrontier.com.
