AMC Monsterfest- Martyrs Feels Like the Future

September 19, 2008 · Comments Off

Grady Hendrix over at AMC’s Monsterfest touches on the topic I’ve been rambling about here recently: the dissolution of American horror. The reason I’m relaying his post is because he makes a point that I’ve been progressively leaning towards over the past year or so: foreign horror is on the rise. As much as I hate seeing unreleased films being overhyped, Bloody-Disgusting is actually pointing in the right direction this time, it seems.

Grady lists a rundown of the domestic films versus the foreign films at this years Toronto Film Festival and suggests that the results leave American filmmakers “Eating the Shame Cake”, lol. I wouldnt go that far, seeing as how none of the films look that spectacular. But, he makes a good point about how foreign films have the edge right now, stating, “Martyrs …felt like the future.”
